May 2, 6:30-9:00 pm, Marci Smoger “Passages, A Journey In Ceramic Sculpture” features the work of local artist Marci Selig Smoger. Smoger works with clay to express her connectedness with the organic referencing the abstracted figure. She captures the gesture, rhythm, and movement of the intangible energies that she sees shaping our universe, thus giving form to that which is formless. She begins with a psychological narrative and proceeds to manipulate the clay through an improvisational conversation with form, space and surface. The Tap Room Trio + 6 |
Cricket Ave Block Party MAP #11
Cricket Ave & Lancaster Ave

May 2nd
6:00 to 6:50 : "Too Cool Cats," featuring vocalist Patty Blee
7:00 to 7:40 : Singer/Songwriter, Julie Loyd
7:50 to 8:40 : "Tap Room Organ Trio + 6," Organ Trio and Horns
8:50 to 9:40 : "Too Cool Cats," featuring vocalist Patty Blee
"Too Cool Cats," featuring vocalist Patty Blee will perform original singer/songwriter tunes and pop/rock hits from the 60's to today. Too Cool Cats are Lou Maresca and Chip Gaasche; they have have performed in and outside the Philadelphia metro area for many years. Lou is a music producer and multi-instrumentalist playing guitars, strings and vocals. Chip, formerly of the well known local band Flaming Caucasians is also a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist playing keyboards and guitars. Patty Blee is an accomplished and well-known Americana roots singer/songwriter in the Atlantic City area and has performed as both headliner and opening act for many international artists.
Originally a child of musical theater, Julie Loyd's music comes across best on stage. Though she's left behind the Broadway vibrato, she uses her movement experience to step inside her songs, contorting, kicking, and undulating to the beat of her own percussive guitar and banjo playing. Whether it's on a guitar or banjo, one can tell her performance experience is considerable.
The Tap Room Trio + 6 fuses the great organ trio and big band traditions into one unique style. The group, led by organist Dave Mattock, plays music specifically written to accommodate the unique instrumentation of the band. With the kick of a big band and the drive of an organ trio, this nine piece ensemble selects from all aspects of its jazz heritage to create a new and personal art.

I enjoy pure, unadulterated color – to me it represents joy and a zest for life. Although I have pursued a wide range of subject matter, from the figure to landscape, my love of color remains constant. Using nature as a starting point, I slowly but surely delve deeper into my imagination and my paintings seem to take on a life of their own. I hope to inspire the viewer to step into a mystical world, where beauty and serenity are one. First Friday sale 20% off all non-sale items

Carsie Blanton - Heartfelt Folk that Pops, Grooves and Giggles
Carsie is a Philadelphia artist whose soulful, playful, intelligent music has won her recognition throughout the local scene, and prompted WXPN's Gene Shay to call her "one of the best singer-songwriters in the business."
A devotee of folk music from the womb, Carsie Blanton later acquired a taste for Jazz, R&B, Motown, and blues, and cobbled them together elegantly to create her own brand of musical shenanigans, which she released in the form of her first album, "Hush", at the tender age of sixteen. In 2005, Carsie released "Ain't So Green", her first studio album, which she now tours the east coast toting boxes of.
Besides music, Carsie delights in teacups, the poetry of e. e. cummings, four-leaf-clovers, swing dancing, and playing with dogs.
