We love to walk where man's hand has not tried to change the natural
environment, searching for the abstract in nature. There are many shapes,
forms, colors and textures and we try to capture the most beautiful and
interesting. But our lens has been caught pointing toward the hand of
man, also.

Fonda Hartman
Friday, September 04, 2009, 5pm to 8pm
I began painting at the age of 41. Originally painting from pictures and photographs, then onto still life. I tried to stay close to reality. Painting "an plein air" I moved into impressionism, capturing color more than the actual reality of the scene. Color is my motivator. Most recently, I start with a limited palette and see where my brush takes me. The final work comes from an emotional response within.

Gillian Pokalo
Friday, September 04, 2009, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
My work is influenced by the sociological shift in the communities that originally were built around industry and the remnants of places that no longer exist. There is something hauntingly beautiful in the textures of an abandoned, derelict building, which evoke memories and pose questions about past inhabitants and present conditions. I employ traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques, including photography, silk screen, and gum bichromate. The process of making a print intrigues me because it is that which remains when the plate or screen is removed. In this way, I think of the creative process as a reflection on the transience and impermanence of life.
